Who is GemK9
The Back Story..
Hi I'm Gemma, from a young age, it was clear that my heart belonged to working with animals - especially dogs. Whether helping friends and family with their pets or becoming the go-to for dog walking and sitting, I’ve always been drawn to understanding and supporting our four legged friends. Through my work on a popular dog sitting/walking site, I saw firsthand how many dogs struggle with basic training, which deepened my desire to learn more and make a meaningful difference.
My own Labrador, Pepper, became my greatest teacher. When she developed a fear of traffic, I realised I needed more than just love and good intentions, I needed knowledge, tools, and strategy. She taught me that dog training isn’t one-size-fits-all, and her unique challenges helped shape my approach to working with dogs in a thoughtful, individualised way.
What began as a personal journey has grown into GemK9 - a service grounded in real experience, structured learning, and a deep respect for dogs and their individuality.
The Approach
Specialising in Behaviour Modification, Puppy Training and Group Classes, working with dogs of all breeds, backgrounds, and behavioural challenges. At GemK9, we don’t believe in cookie-cutter advice. Our approach is holistic and detail-focused, rooted in understanding the unique needs of each dog and building trust through clear communication, structure, breed-appropriate outlets, and meaningful exercise.

60 Day Behaviour Modification Package
This is our most comprehensive training program, designed to create meaningful, lasting change for both you and your dog. Over the course of 60 days, you'll receive five private 1-2-1 coaching sessions, fully tailored to your dog’s behaviour, temperament, and learning style. You’ll also gain unlimited access to our group classes, giving you the opportunity to practise skills around real-world distractions and grow alongside other committed owners.

Our group classes offer structured learning in a supportive, social environment. We run puppy classes for early foundations, urban classes to build confidence in busy settings, and socialisation sessions to help dogs interact calmly and appropriately.

Day Training for Focused Progress
What if I did all the work for you? This is a door-to-door service that I offer for clients within Newbury and the surrounding areas.
Our day training program is designed to fast-track your dog’s development through consistent, hands-on work. Each day is fully tailored to your goals, whether that’s obedience, confidence-building, or behaviour improvement. Your dog spends the day with me engaging in structured training, solo and group walks (where appropriate), play, environmental exposure, and essential rest periods.
Dogs are typically out for 6 hours, and we recommend a minimum two-week commitment to allow time for relationship-building and meaningful progress. This program is ideal for busy owners who want expert support and results-driven structure in their dog’s daily routine.

Puppy Training Package for a Confident Start
Give your puppy the best start with a training package designed to build the foundation for a calm, confident, and well-mannered dog. We’ll cover all the essentials: obedience, socialisation, handling, and the ‘why’ behind your puppy’s behaviour, so you know what to do, what to avoid, and how to confidently raise your dog right from day one.
Every dog is unique, so we start by looking at the bigger picture - lifestyle, environment, and existing training. I create a personalised plan based on your dog’s needs to set you both up for long-term success.
Sessions are flexible and can take place at home, in your local area, at a private secure field, or online. Plus, you’ll have WhatsApp support between sessions for ongoing guidance.

Drop ins
I also offer drop-in services. For existing clients, ad-hoc drop-ins are available to provide flexible, occasional support as needed, whether that’s letting your dog out, giving them a toilet break, or some company during the day.
For new clients, drop-ins are offered on a regular basis only, such as daily, weekly, or twice-weekly visits, to ensure consistency and build trust with your dog.
Daytime Boarding
We offer daytime boarding as a flexible alternative to daycare or kennels. Your dog will enjoy a well-rounded day of exercise, rest, and maintained training or you can upgrade to a focused training day.
